Nineteen

Anna

I see Ryan in a pressed black suit, blond hair slicked back, and chin lifted high, strolling out the door like he doesn’t have a care in the world. This isn’t influencing him. It’s like he’s immune to the chaos around him.

I take off after him, bursting through the door he just used. I expect to see him since it leads to an empty room, but there’s no one. There is no other door in sight and no Ryan.

I swing around, throwing a punch into the wall. The metal dents, but I don’t feel any better.

“What happened?” Griffyn asks when he catches up to me.

“I saw him! I saw Ryan, but he vanished into thin air.”

“Fuck!” Griffyn takes off, searching the room for any clues as I do the same. There’s nothing. No trace of him or a way out.

“Where are you?” Felix demands through the comms.

I explain to them where I found this room.

“I’m on my way too,” Blaze tells us.

We’ve searched the entire room when Felix bursts through the door, Blaze and Aksel right behind him, with Aksel supporting Blaze’s weight. Felix searches the room, immediately prowling toward me when he sees me.

He stalks toward me like a predator, and I freeze, waiting to see what he does next.

His right hand slides into my hair, his left wrapping around my waist and tugging me against him. His lips crash into mine, devouring me in seconds.

It’s possessive and sexy as hell.

His tongue slides inside my mouth while he consumes me.

When we break apart, Felix rests his forehead against mine.

“I was worried,” He confesses.

My heart melts at his soft words. I think I’m finally starting to realize how much my being his mate means to him. He shouldn’t be this worried about me. We haven’t known each other long. But then again, I was worried about all of them too.

That kiss was incredible. The greatest kiss I’ve ever had. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to explore this thing with Felix after all.

Of course, that brings my thoughts to Griffyn and the fact that I threw myself all over him. I appreciate that he turned me down, but that doesn’t make it any less embarrassing.

Felix is still staring down at me, cataloging every inch of me.

“I was worried, too,” I confess.

He smiles like I’ve given him the world.

I break away from our intense moment to scan the others. Blaze is leaning on Aksel and now Griffyn, bloody but conscious. Thank God.

I break away from Felix to go check on Blaze. He doesn’t comment as I look him over.

“Are you okay?” I ask.

His perpetual frown doesn’t change, but he does give me a nod.

“Don’t take it personally. His pride is hurt that he got knocked out,” Griffyn says.

Blaze uses the hand wrapped around Griffyn’s shoulder to smack him in the back of the head.

“Don’t be an idiot,” Aksel says, “So, you think you saw Ryan here?”

He sounds condescending when he says it. Like he doesn’t believe me, or I must be crazy.
